Several international groups have showed interest in acquiring a 100-percent stake in insurance company Univerzalna Bankova Poistovna (UBP). Spokeswoman of one of UBP shareholder, Slovenska Sporitelna (SLSP), Eva Guttlerova informed that several companies had taken an information memorandum on the insurer by the deadline of January 24. The potential investors have until the end of January to submit preliminary bids.

On December 19, 2002, UBP owners, SLSP, Slovenska Konsolidacna (SKo), Postova Banka and Slovenska Poistovna, invited potential investors to show preliminary interest in purchasing 100 percent of the insurer.

The most significant holder of this specialized insurance company is Slovenska Sporitelna, controlling 46 percent while Slovenska Konsolidacna holds 34 percent. Postova Banka and Slovenska Poistovna own 10 percent each.

UBP is a universal insurance company. It received an insurance license in March 1995. It closed 2001 with a profit of SKK 18.1 million, which was twice as much as in 2000. Total written premiums grew 9 percent y/y to SKK 420.8 million.
